ADHD & Autism Assessments – Right to Choose

Patients who would like an ADHD or Autism assessment may be able to access services through the NHS Right to Choose pathway. We encourage patients to research available providers and choose the service that best meets their individual needs.

When selecting a provider, please ensure that:

  • The provider accepts Right to Choose referrals and is currently accepting new patients.
  • The provider is suitable for the age of the person being referred, as some services only assess adults or specific age ranges of children and young people.
  • You review whether appointments are offered online, face-to-face, or both.
  • You understand what services are included following diagnosis, particularly if medication may be required.

Some providers accept self-referrals. If you choose to self-refer, please inform the practice by telephone or email at nl.b81026@nhs.net so that your medical records can be updated accordingly.

If you would prefer the practice to make a referral on your behalf, please complete and online triage form to request this from the GP as they may wish to review you.

Alternatively, patients may choose to be referred to a local NHS services:

  • RDASH (Adults)
  • CAMHS (Children and Young People)

Please note that current waiting times for local NHS assessment services can be significantly longer than some Right to Choose providers.

Important Information

Some Right to Choose providers offer assessment and diagnosis only and do not provide medication prescribing or ongoing treatment. If medication is recommended following diagnosis, a further referral to local NHS mental health services may be required, which could involve additional waiting times.

Shared Care Prescribing

The practice does not accept Shared Care Prescribing agreements from Right to Choose providers. This includes:

  • Taking over prescribing of specialist ADHD medications.
  • Ongoing medication monitoring.
  • Clinical review of specialist medication.

Where treatment is initiated by a Right to Choose provider, that specialist service will retain responsibility for prescribing and monitoring the medication.

ADHD 360 Referrals

If you choose ADHD 360, please follow the registration process on their website before requesting a referral from the practice. ADHD 360 requires patients to obtain and complete their referral documentation directly with them first. Once completed, please provide all required documents to the practice so that we can process your referral. Referrals to ADHD 360 cannot be made until this process has been completed.

Children and Young People

For school-aged children requiring referral to local CAMHS services, referrals are usually made through the child’s school. Please discuss any concerns with your child’s school and inform the practice if a referral has been requested through this route.
