A Practice Committed to Training, Education and Developing our Workforce

At Ancora Medical Practice, education and professional development are an important part of who we are. We are proud to be a teaching and training practice and to play an active role in developing the doctors, nurses and wider healthcare professionals who will provide primary care in the future.

Our commitment to education extends across the whole clinical team and from the earliest stages of medical school through to postgraduate and advanced professional training.

Developing the Doctors of the Future

We currently support:

  • Four GP Registrars, undertaking their specialist GP training through Hull York Medical School and the regional training programme.
  • Two Foundation Year doctors, gaining valuable experience of working within general practice.
  • Two Year 5 medical students, experiencing primary care at an important stage in their medical education.
  • Medical students in the earlier years of their training from Lincoln Medical School and the University of Nottingham.

We are continuing to expand our role in undergraduate medical education and will shortly also be welcoming Year 4 and Year 5 medical students form Lincoln & Notts medical school further strengthening our links with medical schools and our contribution to developing the future medical workforce.

Students and doctors in training are not simply observers at Ancora. We aim to provide a supportive learning environment in which they can develop their clinical knowledge, consultation skills and understanding of the important role that modern general practice plays in delivering patient care.

Investing in Our Nursing Workforce

Our commitment to training extends equally strongly to our nursing and wider clinical team.

We currently have members of staff undertaking Practice Nurse and Nursing Associate training, enabling existing staff to develop their careers and gain additional professional qualifications.

As part of these programmes, we also participate in reciprocal secondments and placements, welcoming learners from other organisations while providing our own staff with opportunities to gain experience in different clinical environments.

Our established nursing team continues to develop advanced clinical skills. Nurses are currently undertaking further qualifications including:

  • Non-Medical Prescribing
  • Advanced Diabetes Care

These qualifications will enable our nurses to work at an increasingly advanced level, improve continuity of care and allow more patients to receive specialist support within their own GP practice.

Creating a Culture of Learning

For us, training is not an additional activity – it is part of how we continually improve our services.

By supporting medical students, Foundation doctors, GP Registrars, Nursing Associates, Practice Nurses and experienced clinicians undertaking advanced qualifications, we create an environment where learning is happening throughout the organisation.

Our experienced clinicians have the opportunity to teach, supervise and mentor others, while trainees and students bring new ideas, current evidence and different perspectives into the practice.

This creates a positive cycle of learning that benefits our staff, our trainees and, most importantly, our patients.

Growing Our Own Workforce

We believe strongly in developing people and providing opportunities for staff to progress within primary care.

Rather than viewing recruitment and training separately, our approach is to attract, train, develop and retain skilled healthcare professionals. Supporting staff to progress into new and advanced roles helps us build a sustainable multidisciplinary workforce capable of meeting the changing needs of our patients.

Proud to Be a Training Practice

With GP Registrars, Foundation doctors, undergraduate medical students, trainee Practice Nurses and Nursing Associates all learning alongside established clinicians undertaking advanced qualifications, Ancora Medical Practice has developed into a genuinely multidisciplinary learning environment.

We are proud of the contribution we make to healthcare education and intend to continue expanding our role as a teaching and training practice.

Training today’s workforce. Developing tomorrow’s clinicians. Improving care for our patients.
